This position is seasonal & works full time hours from April to September. American Staffing is currently seeking a highly motivated Research Farm Assistant with the opportunity to work in many farm operations related to field trial support and seed harvest near Twin Falls, Idaho. The Farm Assistant works closely with the Research Farm Manager and Technician in providing support for multiple research crops.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in planting, pollinating, harvesting, threshing, shipping, weeding, preparing fields, preparing seed, sampling, detasseling, rogueing, and other field and seed activities related to crops and fields. May operate a tractor, combine, or harvester.
The majority of field labor activities occur outdoors. Contractor must be able to lift weights over 25lbs, be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, handle repetitive job tasks, and have the ability to perform tasks at waist level and below (bending over). Outdoor conditions cannot be controlled and therefore the worker will be exposed to uneven walking/working surfaces, mud, insects, heat and cold extremes and the sun.
May drive a company vehicle to bring materials and equipment to and from work sites/fields May operate farming equipment such as a sprayer or thresher Assist in the maintenance and improvement of the farms and assets. Provide support by adhering to all safety policies and attendance at regular company sponsored safety meetings. Assist by carrying out other duties as
Provide support by assisting with irrigation of research crops through gaited pipe and wheel lines. Flexible schedule to assist with evening irrigation schedules and work several weekends. Provide farming research support by assisting with planting, cultivating, weed control and harvesting crops. Attend monthly and weekly safety meetings and work in a safety conscious environment. Assist with other farm related support as needed. Ability to work independently and pay attention to details. Assist with chemical and mechanical weed control along ditch banks and edges of field.
Desired Skills: Familiar with safe and proper operation of tractors and other farm machinery. Familiar with gravity and pressurized irrigation systems.
Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Must pass required driving and background checks. Ability to communicate effectively. Must have a flexible schedule to assist with evening irrigation schedules and work several weekends. Resume required. Location: Filer Pay rate: $14.50 hour
